Garden Rules

Welcome to the Merian Gardens. You are visiting a living museum. To protect our valuable plants, wild and farm animals and for the benefit of all visitors seeking rest, the following garden rules apply:

  • Private property
    The Merian Gardens are situated on the private estate of the Christoph Merian Foundation. Please follow the instructions of our employees.
  • Traffic ban for motor vehicles
    Bicycle traffic is permitted on the main pathways, albeit only at walking pace. Give way to pedestrians. 
  • No dogs
    Guide and assistance dogs are permitted.
  • No picking or harvesting
    Collecting and harvesting seeds, fruits and vegetables and picking or digging out plants qualifies as theft and will be prosecuted
  • Stay off meadows and garden beds
    Garden beds, woody plants and unmown meadows must not be entered. Remain on pathways in the conservation areas.
  • Do not feed animals
    Farm animals and wild animals must not be fed.
  • Avoid noise
    Amplifiers, loudspeakers and loud music are not allowed in the outside spaces.
  • Use waste bins
    Keep the gardens clean and refrain from littering. Disposing of household waste is forbidden.
  • No fire
    Open fires and barbecuing are not allowed on the premises. All fireworks are forbidden.
  • No flyers and posters
    The right to display information, provide informational material and put up posters, displays and signposts is reserved to the Merian Gardens.
  • No ball games
    Flying balls, frisbee discs and similar objects pose a threat to our valuable plants and are therefore not permitted.
  • No drones
    Drones are not permitted in the Merian Gardens.
  • Filming and photographing for commercial purposes is subject to approval
    Please refer to the secretariat of the Merian Gardens.

The Merian Gardens are open daily from 8 am until sunset. Admission is free.

The gardens are closed at nighttime. After closing time, visitors can leave the premises via the night exit at the Entrance St. Jakob.
